Steel PPR fittings have become an extremely popular option for plumbing and mechanical systems in recent years. Compared to traditional metal fittings, steel PPR fittings offer superior corrosion resistance, leak-proof performance, and long service life.
Steel PPR fittings consist of a polypropylene random copolymer inner layer fused to an outer steel reinforcement layer. The polypropylene base provides the corrosion resistance and leak-proof performance, while the external steel layer gives the fitting its strength and rigidity.
Steel PPR fittings are available in a range of metric sizes from 20mm to 160mm for a variety of low and high temperature plumbing and mechanical applications. They can be easily assembled using the standard polyfusion welding process.
Compared to fittings made entirely from polypropylene, the steel reinforcement enables steel PPR fittings to withstand much higher pressures. They also maintain stability and shape in high temperature environments.
The main benefits of steel PPR fittings include:
- Excellent corrosion resistance
- Leak-proof and reliable performance
- High resistance to scale build-up
- Withstand high temperatures and pressures
- Lightweight yet rigid and durable
- Easy to install using standard polyfusion welding
Steel PPR fittings are designed for a wide range of plumbing, heating and mechanical applications including:
- Hot and Cold Water Supply – For hot and cold potable water delivery in homes, businesses, hotels etc. Steel PPR can withstand continuous high temperatures up to 95°C.
- Floor Heating Systems – Steel PPR is ideal for underfloor radiant heating systems due to corrosion resistance and temperature resistance.
- Compressed Air and Gas Lines – For low pressure compressed air and gas systems where non-corrosive and leak-proof performance is required.
- Fire Suppression Systems – The high heat resistance makes steel PPR well-suited for fire sprinkler systems and wet pipe fire suppression.
- Chemical Transportation – Steel PPR fittings offer excellent chemical resistance for transport of diluted acids, alkalis and saline solutions.
- Industrial Liquid Transfer – The corrosion resistance of steel PPR fittings allows them to transfer liquids in chemical plants, refineries, fertilizer units etc.
- Solar Thermal Systems - Steel PPR can withstand the high stagnation temperatures in solar thermal hot water systems.
- Chilled Water Lines – For supply of chilled water in HVAC and process systems, steel PPR fittings provide an anti-corrosion solution.
- Swimming Pool Circulation – Steel PPR is resistant to chlorinated water circulation in swimming pools and water parks.
Steel PPR has rapidly gained preference as a versatile, durable and high performance fitting system for a wide variety of plumbing and mechanical applications. With benefits like corrosion resistance, temperature endurance, leak-proof properties and ease of installation, steel PPR fittings are set to become a staple component in building services and industrial systems for many years to come.
