PEX-A Pipe

PEX-A pipe is a cross-linked polyetheylene tube designed in both residential and commercial plumbing applications. PEX stands for cross-linked polyethylene, representing the chemical process that converts standard polyethylene into a stronger, more durable and flexible material. The crosslinking enables PEX tubing to withstand extreme temperatures as well as expansion and contraction that would cause rigid pipes to fail over time.

The quality of an underfloor heating/cooling system essentially depends on the quality of the piping used, especially on its flexibility and durability. PEX-a cross-linked polyethylene pipes perfectly meet these requirements, also complying with the international reference standards.

PEX-A is created using the Engel or peroxide method of crosslinking, which involves exposing the raw polyethylene to high heat and radical initiators to initiate crosslinking between polymer chains. This creates a 3-dimensional molecular matrix that gives PEX-A its superior performance properties. The Engel method produces pipe that is highly resistant to heat, freezing, chemicals and wear while retaining flexibility and preventing scale build-up.

· Temperature resistance - PEX-A pipe has a maximum service temperature rating of 180°F and won't degrade over time from hot water cycling. It can withstand up to 200° brief temperature exposure.

· Freeze resistance - The flexible nature of PEX-A pipe allows it to expand when water freezes inside the pipe, reducing the risk of ruptures and leaks. It can tolerate freezing temperatures down to -76°F.

· Durability - With no joints that can come loose over time, PEX-A is a single continuous length of pipe that is highly resistant to scale build-up and abrasion from water flow.

· Flexibility - PEX-A tubing can bend and flex easily, allowing for faster and simpler installations. Tight 90 degree turns can be made without elbow fittings.

· Corrosion resistance - PEX-A pipe is nonreactive and withstands exposure to a wide range of chemicals, acids, bases, salts and minerals found in water supplies.

· Faster, simpler installation - With just hand tools needed for connections, PEX-A systems install much faster. Fewer connections, no gluing or welding, smaller bend radii and fewer fittings translate to lower labor costs.

· Freeze resistance - PEX-A flexibility and expansion characteristics eliminate concerns about freeze damage, burst pipes and leaks during cold weather.

· Corrosion resistance - PEX-A withstands exposure to minerals and acids over the lifetime of the system. Removes concerns over pinhole leaks and scale buildup that occurs with copper tubing.

· Reduced sound transmission - The quiet operation of PEX-A compared to rigid pipe materials is a major advantage for builders and homeowners.

· Lower cost - PEX-A material costs are on par with copper while requiring less time, connections and fittings during installation. This yields lower overall job costs.

· Design flexibility - The bendability and slim pipe profile make PEX-A easier to route through tight spaces and around obstacles. Less demolition is required during renovation projects.
